AUDITIONS
Audition appointments are available year-round and are heard on Monday nights before or after rehearsals. To schedule an audition time, email us at auditions@dearbornyouthsymphony.org or call 313-943-2354. Please leave your name, contact information, instrument and the name of the ensemble you will be auditioning for.
WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING SOLO, CONCERTO AND SCHOLARSHIP AUDITION APPOINTMENTS.
AUDITION PREPARATION AND REQUIREMENTS
Come prepared with your instrument and music (copies are not required for the adjudicators).
Percussionists should be prepared to exhibit ability on several percussion instruments and be able to sight-read.
Auditions last approximately 5 minutes and are private. The DYS Conductors will listen to each audition.

String Orchestra
One major scale, one octave AND one melodic minor scale, one octave, plus a solo piece from Suzuki book one or beyond.
Concert Orchestra & Intermediate Flute Choir
One two octave major scale AND one two octave melodic minor scale plus solo piece.
(For strings, the scales must involve at least one shift)
Symphony Orchestra & Advanced Flute Choir
One two octave major scale AND one two octave melodic minor scale plus solo piece.
(For strings, three octave scales)
BLUE LAKE AUDITIONS
Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp is a summer school of the arts located on a 1,300 acre campus in Michigan’s Manistee National Forest. Blue Lake’s Scholarship Auditions are an opportunity for our young musicians to obtain scholarships toward camp tuition. Musicians must be prepared to perform a solo piece and a selection of major and minor scales. Blue Lake Auditions are for students entering 5th grade and older. In order to audition for Blue Lake, students must perform 2 major scales and a minimum of 4 to 5 lines of music.
