AUDITIONS

The DYS is now scheduling audition appointments for our 2010-11 Season. You may schedule your appointment with the form at the bottom of this page or by calling 313-943-2354 extension 5528. If calling, please provide your students name, grade level, instrument, years or experience, audition type and telephone number. Auditions will be heard on September 9th from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Audition appointments will be accepted online until Monday, September 6th.
Walk-in appointments are available after this date.

AUDITION PREPARATION AND REQUIREMENTS

Come prepared with your instrument and music (copies are not required for the adjudicators).

Percussionists should be prepared to exhibit ability on several percussion instruments and be able to sight-read.

Auditions last approximately 5 minutes and are private. The DYS Conductors will listen to each audition.

Placement is at the discretion of the Conductor and is based on the following five factors:
Tone quality; Musicianship; Sight-reading ability; Listening skills/aural acuity; Rehearsal behavior / attitude/commitment (demonstrated in previous season for returning musicians). Members should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled time to warm up. Audition times scheduled on a first-come, first served basis, with preference to auditions scheduled on-line. Walk-in auditions are subject to availability, so it is best to schedule your appointment ahead.

BLUE LAKE AUDITIONS

Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp is a summer school of the arts located on a 1,300 acre campus in Michigan’s Manistee National Forest. Blue Lake’s Scholarship Auditions are an opportunity for our young musicians to obtain scholarships toward camp tuition. Musicians must be prepared to perform a solo piece and a selection of major and minor scales. Blue Lake Auditions are for students in the 7th grade and older. Auditions for Blue Lake are finished for the 2009 season.

Audition times are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please complete one form for each student that will be auditioning. We will make every attempt to schedule sibling appointments back-to-back.
